50th Annual Earl B. Gilliam Scholarship & Awards Gala

The Earl B. Gilliam Bar Foundation is committed to advancing representation within the legal profession by investing in the education and success of African American law students across San Diego County. We support the next generation of legal leaders, students who are deeply rooted in service, excellence, and justice. Since our founding, we’ve proudly awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships to empower future attorneys and continue Judge Gilliam’s enduring legacy.

We invite you to join us for our Golden Anniversary Gala, our signature annual fundraiser and one of the most anticipated events in San Diego’s legal community.

This year’s theme, Still We Rise: Celebrating 50 Years of Courage, Progress, and Hope, honors the founding of the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association in 1976 and is inspired by Maya Angelou’s iconic poem Still I Rise, published in 1978. Rooted in the spirit, resilience, and cultural influence of the 1970s, this milestone celebration pays tribute to the trailblazers who opened doors for future generations while celebrating the legacy that continues today.

Each year, this powerful evening brings together attorneys, judges, law students, and community allies to celebrate Black excellence in law, honor trailblazers, and raise critical scholarship funds for the next generation of legal leaders.
