| Job Description/Duties |
| The Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office is seeking Deputy District Attorneys I–V to prosecute criminal cases at all stages of the judicial process. Depending on experience and classification, attorneys will review law enforcement reports, determine appropriate criminal charges, manage misdemeanor and felony caseloads from arraignment through disposition, conduct preliminary hearings and jury trials, and represent the People of the State of California in court. These positions require sound legal judgment, strong advocacy skills, and the ability to effectively manage a high-volume caseload while collaborating with colleagues to ensure fair, consistent, and just outcomes. As attorneys advance through the classifications, they assume greater responsibility for increasingly complex and high-profile prosecutions, including serious and violent felonies, domestic violence, sexual assault, and homicide cases. Senior-level Deputy District Attorneys exercise significant independent discretion in charging decisions, case strategy, plea negotiations, and trial preparation, while serving as mentors and leaders within the office. Successful candidates will demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to public service while helping protect the community and uphold justice. |
| Job Criteria |
| Candidates must possess current active membership in the State Bar of California and have progressively responsible legal experience commensurate with the level of appointment. Opportunities are available for attorneys ranging from newly licensed prosecutors to seasoned trial attorneys with extensive criminal prosecution experience. Experience handling misdemeanor and felony matters, jury trials, specialty assignments, and complex criminal litigation is highly valued, with more advanced classifications requiring increasing levels of criminal law experience and demonstrated expertise. |
