Job Description/Duties
As Deputy General Counsel you will be under the supervision and direction of the General Counsel. You will provide advice and counsel in a wide variety of areas including, but not limited to, business, construction and technology contracts. Counsel will be required to perform a range of tasks, including analyzing legal liability, rendering advice to staff, managing outside counsel, attending Board and staff meetings, and representing the District at administrative and court hearings. This position requires an ability to conduct staff training and coordinate with all levels of personnel, including school site staff, central office administrators, executive leadership and elected officials. The Deputy General Counsel will also perform other duties as assigned by the General Counsel.

Job Criteria
Required Skills and Abilities:
● Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local legislation, statutes, codes and procedures, including the
Public Contract Code and Government Code;
● Understanding of importance of urban public schools;
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to convey complex information to a
variety of audiences (e.g., large groups, staff meetings, executive briefings, public board meetings,
memos) and the ability to thoughtfully choose the type of communication based on the situation and
● Strong analytic and systems thinking necessary to inform strategy, adopt or recommend effective courses
of action and prepare comprehensive narrative and statistical reports;
● Ability to connect with others and build effective professional relationships;
● Ability and willingness to approach problems with curiosity to generate effective, creative solutions;
● Excellent listening skills, including listening for unspoken and deeper-level issues;
● Ability to identify organizational trends and patterns;
● Ability to give and receive critical feedback to grow oneself and others;
● Ability to commit to and exhibit SFUSD’s Core Values;

Salary Range/Hourly Rate
$184,869.80 to $230,956.52/annually
